Tempur-Pedic is a popular brand of mattresses and pillows made from viscoelastic foam. The first Tempur-Pedic mattress was developed in Sweden in 1991 and was brought to the United States the next year.
Tempur-Pedic products are both manufactured and distributed by Tempur-Pedic International Incorporated, which is based in Kentucky.
Initially, the proprietary Tempur material was developed to provide NASA astronauts relief from the g-forces that occur as a result of acceleration and gravity.
Although Tempur-Pedic products have a reputation for being costly, they continue to be popular with buyers. Tempur-Pedic mattresses have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, Consumers Digest "best buy" and an Ease-of-Use Commendation from the Arthritis Foundation. In addition, Tempur-Pedic is the only mattress approved by NASA.
