As of 2015, Goodman heat pumps are sold online through Amazon.com and AC4Life.com. Consumers may also use the Find a Dealer option on the Goodman Air Conditioning & Heating website to locate local distributors.
Goodman heat pumps use scroll compressors, which are quieter and have fewer moving parts than traditional reciprocating compressors. The company's heat pumps are fitted with a filter drier that cleans the liquid refrigerant of moisture and contaminants. The crankcase heater on Goodman heat pumps keeps oil and refrigerant in the compressor. This protects the compressor and reduces noise. The accumulator protects the compressor by storing the refrigerant and converting it to vapor.
Goodman heat pumps use R-410A refrigerant. This type of refrigerant doesn't contain chlorine and is considered more environmentally responsible than previous refrigerants; it does, however, operate under higher pressures. The discharge mufflers of Goodman heat pumps help eliminate noise and vibration and are sized to accommodate the higher pressures required by the R-410A refrigerant.
When refrigerant levels become low, heat pumps don't operate correctly and the compressor may freeze or become damaged. Goodman heat pumps are equipped with a low-pressure switch which stops the machine and prevents this damage. The compressor sound blanket insulates the compressor and reduces noise.
