Storage carousels come in vertical and horizontal configurations, each offering advantages for different storage space layouts. Vertical storage carousels rotate shelves of items or boxes vertically, minimizing the overall footprint of the unit while increasing storage space, safety and efficiency for workers. Horizontal units move racks of shelves horizontally, taking up more floor space but accommodating many narrower shelves with bins for picking parts.Continue Reading
Besides taking up less floor space, vertical storage carousels have the advantage of offering wide shelves full of items that rotate vertically, bringing the items to a front-facing window placed at an ergonomic height. Once the shelf containing the item is rotated to the window, no lifting from a low shelf or picking from a higher one is necessary. Workers not only benefit from this by not having to bend and stretch time and again to put together orders for shipment or distribution, but having enclosed units increases safety as items cannot fall over onto workers below. For non-warehouse use, smaller vertically rotating carousels enable protected display of high-priced items such as coins, jewelry and watches.
For larger items or items most efficiently stored and retrieved in bins, horizontal storage units offer an excellent solution. Like vertical carousel storage solutions, the idea is to bring the bin or box to the worker, obviating the need for walking to it. Well-known implementations of horizontal storage carousels include the rotating horizontal belts at a dry cleaner, or the carousel of vinyl records in a vinyl jukebox.Learn more about Cabinets & Storage
