The freezer sections of top-mount refrigerators are not available in a standard size as of 2015. The freezer sizes vary by model, and bigger refrigerators usually include larger freezers.
An apartment-sized 10-cubic-foot refrigerator typically includes a freezer with a capacity of about 2 cubic feet. A full-sized 23.8-cubic-foot refrigerator usually includes a freezer with a capacity of about 6 cubic feet.
Large top-mount freezers can accommodate a shelf and an ice maker. Refrigerators with top-mount freezers often are less expensive than bottom-mount, side-by-side and French-door units of the same size. Top-mount models also use up to 30 percent less energy than side-by-side refrigerators of the same size.
