You can get spots out of silk with materials you probably already have in the home. The amount of time it takes to get spots out of silk varies depending on the severity of the spots. You need some clean cloths, vinegar, water, a sink, shampoo and a towel to complete the job.
- Blot stained areas with water and vinegar
Dampen a clean cloth with cool water and gently blot the stains. For non-food stains, you need to apply a little bit of vinegar to the area with the cloth as well.
- Soak and rub the silk
Add a few drops of shampoo to a sink filled with warm water. Agitate the water with your cloth so that a lather of suds appears. Place your silk object into the sink and allow it to soak for approximately five minutes. Do not let it sit for too long or the fabric may be damaged by the water and shampoo. Use your fingers to lightly rub the spots on the soapy fabric.
- Rinse and dry the silk
Empty the sink and refill it with cold water. Add 1/4 of a cup of vinegar to the cold water and run it over the silk object. Empty the sink again and fill it with water. Rinse the silk thoroughly, and dry it with a towel.
