Southern house plans are floor plans for southern-style dwellings, meant to evoke the cultural heritage of the southeast United States. Some examples of southern house plan styles include colonial, plantation and low-country coastal houses.
Some features of southern-style house plans include: multiple stories, wide and wrap-around covered porches supported by columns and lines of windows. Often these floor plans are significantly influenced by the plantation-style houses of the pre-Civil War South; neoclassical and Greek revival elements like simple clean lines and a profusion of columns, whether wood or stone, dominate the facade of these houses. The front door would often be centered on the house, to create symmetry.
