A shower stem can be replaced by turning the water off and removing the existing stem. Basic tools such as a screwdriver and wrench are needed.

- Turn off the water Disconnect the main water line and run the faucet to clear out any water.
- Remove the faucet Using a screwdriver, pop the disc off from around the faucet and remove the screw that becomes visible.
- Replace the stem With a wrench, remove the two bolts holding the stem in place and remove the stem. Replace it with the new stem and put the bolts back on.
- Put the faucet back Screw the faucet back in and replace the disc. Turn the water on and test the stem.
