Hibiscus plants can be grown in many different areas around the world, and because of this, there are many different seasons and times that they can be pruned. When to prune a hibiscus plant depends on the specifics of the growing area and the plant’s growing conditions.

Hibiscus plants growing in warm climates with short to no freezing periods can be pruned in the late fall. Pruning warm climate plants in the fall causes these plants to produce hearty summer flowers. Hibiscus plants growing in areas with warm summers and cold winters must be pruned during the spring to rejuvenate the plant after the winter. Hard pruning, or cutting the plant back to the ground, can be done in the spring in both warm and cooler climates.
