Use Kilz mold spray primer in the same areas as other varieties of Kilz mold-killing primer. Kilz suggests using its products in most applications, but warns they may not be appropriate for use on floors. Like all Kilz products, Kilz mold spray primer is effective in covering up difficult stains and odors.
Kilz recommends using a dilute bleach solution on the area before applying Kilz mold spray primer. Make this solution by mixing equal parts water and chlorine bleach. Pour the solution into a spray bottle, and apply it to the area. Let the solution dry fully before applying a coat of Kilz mold spray primer.
Kilz mold spray primer sprays directly onto the surface from an aerosol can. While most Kilz primers work well with only a single coat, areas with serious mold problems may require additional coats. Because Kilz mold spray primer does not apply to the surface as thickly as brushed- or rolled-on primers, additional coats may also be necessary for totally concealing underlying stains or discoloration.
Kilz mold spray primer kills existing mold, while its new surface resists the growth of new mold and mildew. In addition to killing mold, Kilz mold spray primer also covers strong odors, such as those caused by pets or heavy smokers. The product also promotes adhesion and opacity of the final paint layers.
