Sharp manufactures nine air purifier models that have received ENERGY STAR certification as energy efficient. Certified air purifiers use approximately 40 percent less energy than standard models. Sharp also manufactures a number of models that are not ENERGY STAR certified.
The certified models include a range of air purifier sizes, including models FP-P30U, KC-860U and FP-A80U.
To receive certification, products pass third-party testing at laboratories approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Additionally, certified models are subject to annual off-the-shelf testing to ensure efficiency standards are continuously met. The EPA and U.S. Department of Energy created the ENERGY STAR certification program in 1992.
