Residential services that Wake Electric offers include a compact fluorescent bulb recycling program, right-of-way maintenance and vegetation management programs, a renewable energy program and capital credits. Wake Electrics services for commercial members are interruptible rate reduction, a surge protection program, time-of-use rates and business development assistance.
The Wake Electric compact fluorescent bulb recycling program allows customers to drop off expired, broken or defective bulbs at one of the two Wake Solid Waste Management facilities in order to have them recycled. Wake Electric does not accept tubular fluorescent bulbs as a part of the program.
The Wake Electric right-of-way program focuses on controlling the growth of vegetation around and nearby Wake Electric transmission facilities. The company states that complications with power grids attributed to fallen trees and vegetation obstacles are some of the leading causes of power outages. In response, Wake Electric has developed a management program that includes tree pruning, the removal of trees that require excessive pruning, and the mowing, cutting or application of herbicide to brush and small trees in an effort to prevent power failures due to vegetation.
The renewable energy and capital credits Wake Electric programs allow residential member customers to sell energy produced from renewable energy providers back to Wake Electric.
