As of 2015, Dominion's services include the provision of natural gas and electricity to utility and retail customers in 13 states; the generation of 24,900 megawatts of electric power that is delivered over Dominion transmission lines; and the expansion of renewable energy sources, such as solar power. Dominion also operates one of the largest natural gas storage systems in the United States and manufacturers and markets home security systems, air cleaners, outdoor lighting, surge protectors and energy meters.
Dominion reports that it saw a 26 percent increase in customers enrolled in its energy saving program, Green Power, in 2014, increasing the number to 25,000. As part of Green Power, Dominion purchases renewable energy certificates on behalf of its participating customers, enabling them to reduce carbon dioxide emissions up to 6 metric tons in one year. Through its solar purchase program, Dominion allows customers to create energy and then sell it to the company at a competitive per kilowatt rate. Dominion's electric vehicle pilot program offers two different special electrical rate options to customers who drive cars powered by electricity.
According to Dominion's 2014 annual report, 50 percent of its electricity production in 2014 was from carbon-free nuclear and renewable energy sources, and it increased its renewable energy capacity by 56 percent since 2013.
