How Do Serta and Simmons Mattresses Compare?

Both Serta and Simmons consistently top Consumer Reports mattress rankings, with Serta slightly outranking Simmons in the 2014 report. Serta is recommended by the National Sleep Foundation and received the Women's Choice Award in 2014 and 2015 and the Consumer's Digest Best Buy award in 2014.

The Serta Perfect Day iSeries Applause was the number one highest-rated innerspring mattress and the Simmons Beautyrest Recharge Palisades Court Luxury Firm Pillowtop was the second highest-rated. Consumer Reports mattress rankings included three Serta beds and one Simmons bed.

An article accompanying the Consumer Reports ratings cautions that higher price does not always correlate with better performance, noting that the top-rated Serta model was also the lowest-priced of the top four innerspring mattresses, including the Simmons Beautyrest.

The National Sleep Foundation also recommends the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress to reduce common sleep problems. It is designed to encourage proper spinal support and alignment, minimize impact from partner movement, promote a balanced sleep temperature and help reduce tossing and turning. The mattress also resists sagging, which reduces edge roll-off.

Simmons Bedding Company is known for its Beautyrest line as well as its creation of the Hide-A-Bed sofa in 1940. The company was the first U.S. mattress maker to introduce mattresses in kind and queen sizes. According to the Simmons website, 18 of the top 20 hotel brands worldwide use Simmons mattresses in their hotels.
