Locally owned stores such as Appliances Unlimited and Avenue Appliance are available in Edmonton, as are chain outlets like Trail Appliance, Lowes and Home Depot. The inventory may be more extensive at the chain outlets, but local stores tend to provide more personalized service and specialize in niche markets.
Appliances Unlimited is locally owned and located in the Hazeldean neighborhood, south of the Alberta Legislature Grounds. Open seven days a week, the firm offers high-end brands including GE, KitchenAid and Amana. In store specials are offered, as well as price matching.
Avenue Appliance is also downtown, and offers a more personalized, boutique-style shopping experience. Their showroom is filled with live appliances so buyers get a first-hand look at how they work. Avenue Appliance specializes in retro look appliances, like stoves from AGA and BlueStar. Sleek modern wine coolers and stainless steel appliances are also available.
Trail Appliance is a smaller chain that has stores in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Two of their seven Alberta stores are in Edmonton, one north of downtown, the other south. Also open seven days a week, Trail Appliance welcomes walk-ins, but also schedules customer appointments.
Lowes and Home Depot are international chains with large stores and considerable inventory. Lowes has three stores in the Edmonton area, while Home Depot has 10.
