Royal Tuscan china is china made by the Wedgwood company after purchasing the Tuscan Tableware company in 1967. The original Tuscan Tableware china company was founded by R.H. Plant in 1878 in Staffordshire, England.
The Wedgwood company added "Royal" to the Tuscan china name as a marketing gimmick. Wedgwood purchased Tuscan Tableware to gain access to two specific china bodies produced by the company in the 1950s. One was a tough china which the company referred to as "hotel china," and was used for china in hotels. The other was a pale pink shade of china. Wedgwood used very few of the Tuscan Tableware ideas in their own china.
