A change in bed linens and curtains can brighten up a bedroom, strategically placed shelves help organize a laundry room and a bit of paint, throw pillows and colorful accents can liven up a living area. A new bedspread and window treatment may be all that bedroom needs, but sometimes it takes a little more. As a child grows up, tastes change. Adding a new desk for a computer and homework gives a child their own personal "grown up" space.
A well-organized laundry room tends to make that chore a bit easier. Even if that laundry room is in the corner of the basement, adding some nice looking shelving provides a place for supplies and other necessities. If there's enough space, consider putting in a folding table or a movable laundry island. This can make it easier to fold items as they come warm out of the dryer, with less wrinkles and no need to load and unload the laundry basket twice.
Brightening up a living room can lift the spirit. It may take only a few colorful throws, pillows and wall hangings. If it's in the budget, new furniture can breathe new life into a space. If it's an open concept living room/dining room/kitchen space, it doesn't have to match exactly. Choose paint colors that complement each space and each other. A soft green paint for the living area, which is restful, complements light yellow walls in a kitchen.
