Gable, gambrel and winged gable are types of roofs. Roof types and styles are different from place to place because they are designed to shelter the structure they're covering.
Gable roofs look like upside down Vs, and they're not good for areas with high wind because they can catch wind like a sail. Gambrel roofs mostly appear on barns, but they are also useful for residential construction. They provide extra space in the attic that homeowners can use for other living areas or bedrooms. Winged gable roofs are a little different from traditional roofs because they expand outward from the roof's peak.
