Roof painting is dangerous if proper safety precautions are not followed. Workers falling from roofs cause 39.9 percent of construction-related fatalities, according to a 2014 report by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
There are several precautions workers can take make roof painting as safe as possible. These include wearing appropriate footwear that has good traction, avoiding working on a roof that is wet and keeping the work area clear of any tools or debris that could cause a worker to trip. On steeply pitched roofs, the worker may need to use safety equipment, such as harnesses, nets and guardrails, to avoid falls while painting.
