RONA Home & Garden is a Canadian home-improvement retail franchise, similar to the Home Depot or Lowe's. The franchise is owned by RONA Inc., a company based in Quebec. RONA Home & Garden covers a broad spectrum of home-improvement products, such as small appliances, fixtures, lighting, paint and outdoor storage.
Much like its competitors, RONA Home & Garden fosters a customer-oriented learning environment where shoppers can ask for advice about home-improvement projects. Employees are available to provide step-by-step guidance on choosing the right products or building materials, and the company offers many landscaping and installation services, including flooring, roofing, plumbing, fencing and patio construction.
RONA Inc. originated in 1939 as Les Marchands en Quincaillerie ltée, or Merchants Ltd. Hardware, when a small collective of store owners united to compete with a monopoly. The company was renamed Groupe RONA Inc. and eventually became a legal corporation in 1960. By 1983, RONA began promoting interior decorating products through consumer showrooms, and in 1988, a merger with Dismat expanded the company's catalogue of building materials.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the company fostered partnerships with other hardware chains and specialty stores. Acquiring large warehouse locations helped transform RONA into a major consumer retail franchise and expand to include other branded stores, such as Reno-Depot. The company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014.
