Tiny black ants quickly become annoying when they invade your home. Get rid of these pests naturally with index cards, corn syrup, borax, cinnamon, diatomaceous earth and a vacuum.
- Make and place ant traps
Cut several index cards in half. Mix 1 part corn syrup and 1 part borax in a bowl. Spread the mixture on each piece of index card with your finger. Place the ant traps in areas of your house where you see ants as well as in closets and cabinets. The ants are attracted to the traps, and they will get stuck as they crawl onto them.
- Sprinkle cinnamon on floors and counters
Sprinkle a line of cinnamon on floors and counters where you notice ants. Make a continuous line of cinnamon 3 to 4 inches away from the wall. Place an index card ant trap between the line of cinnamon and the wall.
- Spread diatomaceous earth outside
Make a barrier around your home of diatomaceous earth. Spread the diatomaceous earth around the foundation of your home in a continuous line.
- Replace ant traps as necessary
Pick up ant traps as they fill, and throw them away. Vacuum your floors and counters. Empty the vacuum bag or canister outside. Replace cinnamon lines and ant traps as necessary to control ants.
