Odor builds up in washing machines over time, especially if you frequently wash your clothes with cold water. Use white distilled vinegar to remove the odor and prevent it from returning.
Buy a gallon of white distilled vinegar. Put it in the same place you store your laundry detergent.
Run a cycle with only vinegar
Fill the bleach dispenser in your washing machine with vinegar. Run a cycle without any clothes on the hottest temperature.
Wipe out the machine
Wipe out the inside of the machine with a paper towel. Spray stubborn stains or calcium deposits with vinegar, and scrub with a scouring pad or scrub brush.
Repeat the process
If odors remain, repeat the steps above. Mold and mildew build up over time. It can take more than onc cycle to remove the odors from your washing machine.
Wash clothes with vinegar
Add vinegar to each wash cycle to keep odors at bay. Fill the bleach dispenser with vinegar, add detergent as normal and wash your clothes on the appropriate temperature setting. Vinegar is a natural fabric softener that doesn't leave an odor on your clothing, so clothes smell fresh and feel soft when they are finished.
