To eliminate mold inside the home, eliminate excess moisture in the area, ensure the area is adequately ventilated, and clean the area with soap, water, bleach and borate-based detergent. Clean the room thoroughly after removing the mold to prevent the mold from recurring.
To get rid of mold, ensure the area is properly ventilated, and eliminate excessive moisture in the area. After the cause of the mold is eliminated, isolate the room by placing clear plastic over vents and doorways, and move large furnishings out of the room. Dispose of any small items that contaminated with mold, and wash hard surfaces that are contaminated using a solution of 1 cup of detergent and 1 gallon of warm water.
After washing the area with detergent, allow it to dry for 20 minutes, and apply a solution of 1/4 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of warm water to the area. Allow the bleach solution to dry for 20 minutes, and reapply the bleach solution to the area. After an additional 20 minutes, apply the bleach solution a third time.
After washing the area with bleach a third time, allow the area to dry for 20 minutes, and wash the area with a borate-based detergent. Clean the floors, furnishings and other items in the room with household cleaners to prevent mold from recurring.
