How Do You Get Rid of the Mildew Smell When You Hang up Jeans to Dry Inside?

A mildew odor occurs when you hang jeans indoors to dry and they remain wet for too long. Use vinegar and baking soda to remove the smell of mildew from denim.

  1. Gather your supplies

Gather laundry detergent and baking soda or vinegar, and grab your jeans.

  2. Start the washer

Fill the washing machine as you normally do. Put the jeans in your regular load of laundry. Measure and add your favorite detergent to the water.

  3. Add vinegar or baking soda

Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar or 1 cup of baking soda to the water. Let the washing machine start its wash cycle.

  4. Stop the machine

Stop the machine once the detergent and vinegar or baking soda are thoroughly mixed with the water.

  5. Soak the clothes

Allow the load of laundry to soak for an hour. Let the laundry soak longer if you have time.

  6. Restart the washing machine

Restart the washing machine. Let the cycle finish.

  7. Smell your jeans

Remove your jeans from the machine. Smell the jeans to make sure the odor is gone. Repeat the steps above when you still smell mildew.

  8. Dry the denim

Dry your jeans normally when the smell of mildew is completely gone.
