Use gel bait to eliminate German cockroaches. The bait should be placed in areas where the roaches are often seen. Place the gel bait near the stove or coffee maker, or in areas where droppings are found. Avoid placing the bait near areas where children or pets can reach it, and keep it away from food items. Place extra bait behind the sink where roaches tend to hide. Sticky traps are another effective way of trapping the roaches. Strategic places for sticky traps are drawers, counters and wall corners.
Insecticide dusts are another alternative, and including silica aerogel, boric acid and diatomaceous earth.
Lightly apply these dusts in intervals in cracks, crevices and light fixtures. Chemical-based pesticides in the form of sulfluramid, fipronil and hydramethylnon are available to consumers. There are also pesticides that come in granular form.
Remove dirty dishes or loose food items around the home, as food particles attract cockroaches. Sponges and toothpaste should be kept out of plain sight.
