To get rid of fleas, wash your pet, clean exposed bedding, vacuum floors and apply a flea solution around the yard. A flea comb, dish soap and a bowl of water are necessary for washing the animal. Foggers for the home may be required as well.
- Wash the pet
Use a flea comb to see if fleas are present on your pet. Quickly run the comb back through the fur. Check the head, ears, legs and tail. If fleas are spotted, dip the comb in a bowl of water mixed with dish soap, and run the comb through the fur to kill the fleas. Get rid of fleas that get stuck on the comb by any means. Repeat the process as necessary. Use a flea product on your pet, such as Advantage or Frontline. Apply the flea product on your pet once a month.
- Clean the house
Apply flea powder on the sofa, around the wall and the floors. Vacuum the floors and rugs two or three times a week. Get rid of the vacuum cleaner bags. Use foggers for each room. Remove all fish, birds and other pets from the house. Humans must not be present for at least two hours when the foggers are active. Wash and dry all bedding in the home.
- Control fleas outside
Attach a flea solution to your hose, and spray throughout the yard. Avoid spraying on garden vegetables, and repeat the spraying sessions as often as necessary.
