Crickets are attracted to cool, damp areas. Control humidity levels in basements and crawlspaces by ensuring adequate ventilation, and move boxes and other items away from walls to improve the airflow indoors. Outdoors, remove damp mulch and other landscaping features, such as rock piles and weeds, that may provide the insects with shelter. Bushes, stacks of firewood and mulch should be at least 12 inches away from the sides of the home.
Camel crickets enter the home through small cracks and crevices. Seal small holes with caulking or another appropriate material, install weather stripping around doors and place screens on windows to prevent the crickets from entering the home.
To capture crickets that do enter the home, place sticky boards or glue traps in the affected areas. Check and replace the sticky boards as needed. Pesticides can be applied around the foundation of the home if the infestation is severe.
