Unplug the refrigerator before starting the job, and shut off the water supply valve behind the refrigerator by turning it clockwise until it stops. Take out the ice bin, and look for the Philips head screw on the left side. Removing this screw frees the plastic panel over the wire harness. Unplug the wire connector, and push the locking tab down to slide out the unit. Set the unit to one side.

Pick up the new unit, and hold the same tab down while you slide the new unit in. Connect the wires, and put the panel back in place. Replace the screw, and put the ice bin container back. Plug in the refrigerator, and turn the water supply valve counterclockwise to start the flow of water and to resume operation of the refrigerator. Instructions may differ slightly for other GE models, so check the owner's manual and the instructions that come with the new ice maker..
