Shut off the water supply to the bathtub, and drain the tub. Scrape off any caulk to detach the faucet from the wall. Unscrew the set screw, if applicable, and use a screw driver to twist the spout as needed. Use your hand to turn the faucet counter-clockwise until the faucet is unplugged.
Wash the outlet pipe with steel wool to remove dirt and debris. Measure and cut off the tip of the new faucet so it fits with the spout. For a screw-on spout, use a faucet that is identical to the old one.
Insert the outlet pipe into the new faucet, and secure the attachment with a set screw. To secure a screw-on pipe, screw the spout onto the threads. Caulk any gaps between the new faucet and the wall. Finally, open the water supply to the bathroom.
