How Do You Repair a Vinyl Swimming Pool?

To repair a hole in a vinyl swimming pool liner, purchase a patch kit, cut a patch to size, apply the adhesive, cover the damaged area, and allow the patch to dry. Swimming pool vinyl repair kits can be found at most home improvement stores, such as Lowe's and The Home Depot.

Vinyl patch kits come in either wet- or dry-use materials and adhesives as well as different sizes and colors. Many times vinyl pool liners are damaged below the waterline, so get the correct kit to suit the location and damage you are repairing.

To begin the repair process, cut a round piece of repair material at least five times the diameter of the hole you wish to repair. If it is a tear, cut the material in an oval shape. Apply a generous amount of waterproof adhesive to one side of the patch. Fold the patch in half with the adhesive side in, and get into the water.

Locate the damaged area, unfold the patch under water, and apply it centered over the hole or tear. Smooth the edges without letting the patch slide around. Let it cure for 24 hours, and test the edge of the patch to make sure it adhered. If it pulls loose, repeat the process.
