How Do You Remove a Highlighter Stain From Jeans?

Remove a highlighter stain from jeans by treating it with a pre-treatment solution and then laundry detergent. You will need a cleaner designed for pre-treating laundry, cotton balls or a clean cloth, water and laundry detergent. Depending on the size of the stain, complete removal should take less than an hour.

  1. Apply the pre-treatment solution

Press clean cotton balls to the stain to absorb as much of the stain as possible. Completely soak the stained area with the pre-treatment solution. Allow the stain to soak in the pre-treatment for 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. Apply laundry detergent to the stain

Rub a small amount of laundry detergent onto the stain in a gentle, circular motion. Don't attempt to scrub the fibers. Scrubbing can permanently set the stain. Rinse the stain with water. Inspect the area for highlighter stains. Repeat this process until the stain disappears.

  3. Soak the jeans in salt water

Soak the jeans in cold salt water for 2 to 3 hours. Rinse thoroughly. Run the jeans through a cold wash and rinse cycle in the washing machine.

  4. Dry the jeans in the sun

Hang the jeans to dry outside on a clothes line in the sun. The sun bleaches out any remaining stains.
