To remove a grease stain from silk, apply a small amount of CitraSolve to the stained area, let it sit, and then send it through the washer. If you prefer, you may try to steam the stain out after pre-treating instead of washing it.
- Purchase CitraSolve
CitraSolve is an all-natural citrus solvent that is known for its de-greasing power. It comes in the form of concentrated oil or a multi-purpose spray bottle. The concentrate should be used conservatively, while the spray bottle may be used moderately.
- Pre-treat the stain
If you choose to use the concentrated form, apply the oil to a cotton ball and dab it onto the stain. If you use the spray bottle, apply enough to moderately dampen the stain without soaking it. Let the pre-treatment sit for at least 5 minutes before moving on to step 3.
- Steam or wash the silk garment
Wash the silk with hot water either by hand or in a washing machine. If you have a clothes steamer available, steam the stain before washing the garment. The steam may be enough to lift both the stain and the CitraSolve from the silk, thus eliminating the need to wash the garment. This is particularly helpful with garments that cannot be washed in a machine.
