To remove gloss paint, scrape the paint with a putty knife and paint scraper, and apply commercial stripper. Allow the paint stripper to dry, and scrape off the remaining paint. Repeat the process until all of the paint is removed.
- Prepare to remove the paint
Put on a breathing mask, rubber gloves, and safety goggles. Open all doors and windows in the room. Set the electric fan facing outwards in a window or doorway, and turn it to the "exhaust" setting.
- Prepare the surface
Use painter's tape to protect the surfaces surrounding the area you will be working with and any surfaces you don't want to repaint. Protect the floor with plastic or a painter's cloth.
- Scrape the gloss paint
Using the putty knife and paint scraper, scrape the gloss paint from the surface. Remove as much paint as possible to allow the paint stripper to work effectively.
- Apply the paint stripper
Apply the paint stripper to the freshly scraped area in smooth, even strokes. Allow it to sit for the amount of time specified on the product's packaging. If the stripper spills onto your skin, wash it off immediately.
- Scrape off the remaining paint
Scrape off the rest of the paint using the paint scraper or putty knife. Repeat steps three through five until all the paint is removed.
