To get rid of cat urine odors, find the urine stains, and clean them with an enzymatic cleaner, as this is the most effective product to destroy urine. After that, wash the stains using an extracting wet vacuum cleaner. Never use steam cleaners when cleaning up urine, as they can make the smell even stronger. Coat the spots where urine used to be with baking soda, and leave it there for a few hours to absorb the smell.
Always clean up urine spots as soon as possible, as the smell gets much stronger with time. Use paper towels to collect urine from carpets and furniture, and wash linens, clothing or drapes immediately after the cat urinates on them. Use a wet rag to wipe the urine off hard surfaces. As an alternative to baking soda, mix 1 cup of crushed, dried herbs, such as rosemary and lavender, 1 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and use that to sprinkle over urine stains.
Try to keep the cat from urinating in the house by training it to use a litter box or placing absorbent pads in the location where the cat usually urinates. The cat may make puddles because of kidney or bladder problems or anxiety, so take the cat to the vet if you suspect that it may be the problem.
