Each type of carpet stain requires a different cleaning solution for removal. Once this is determined, apply the cleaner directly to the stain, and then blot the stain with a dry white cloth.
For beer, coffee and tea stains, spray the area with a detergent solution made up of 1/4 teaspoon of a translucent liquid dish washing detergent and one cup of lukewarm water. Next, blot the stain with a dry white cloth. Then, spray the area again using a vinegar solution made with 1 cup of white vinegar and 2 cups of water, and blot the stain again with another dry white cloth. After using the cloth, spray the stain one more time with the detergent solution, and blot again. Finally, spray the stain with lukewarm water, and blot. Continue these steps until the stain is gone.
With hard candy, chocolate, berries, juice, wine, soda and milk stains, follow the same steps, but before applying the vinegar solution, spray an ammonia solution made from 1 tablespoon of clear household ammonia mixed with 1/2 cup of lukewarm water. For ketchup and tomato sauce stains, follow the same steps as with beer, coffee and tea, but substitute the vinegar solution with the ammonia solution.
