Frigidaire, Kenmore, Whirlpool, KitchenAid and LG are among the manufacturers that offer refrigerator models with ice makers built into the doors, as of 2015. While interior ice machines are usually located inside or near the freezer, in-door ice dispensers are generally accessible from outside of the refrigerator.
In-door ice machines are commonly installed in French door and side-by-side refrigerators, which are often more expensive than top-freezer and bottom-freezer models. In-door units can offer greater flexibility for shoppers who don't want to sacrifice food storage space. Many high-end models produce ice in more than one style, such as cubed and crushed, and have built-in filtration systems to remove impurities from dispensed water.
