On July 6, 2005, the Consumer Product Safety Commission published a recall regarding the Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seat due to a potential drowning hazard. These seats were sold new beginning in December 2003, and about 300,000 units were sold.
Reportedly, the bath seats are not intended for, and should not be used, with certain types of non-traditional or sunken bathtubs. When used in these types of tubs, the seats can break and/or tip over, and the child can fall into the tub. These particular Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seats have Model Number 44301 engraved on the bottom of the base and "Safety 1st" is printed on the front of the units. They are white and blue and have a swivel seat and an elbow cushion on the attachment arm.
