The Tell City Chair Company no longer manufactures furniture; the company closed on Sept. 1, 2011. While the company was producing furniture, it made items such as dining room furniture, living room furniture, bedroom furniture, office chairs and rocking chairs.
The Tell City Chair Company, which was headquartered in Tell City, Indiana, began production in November 1865. In the early 1900s, the company was the largest manufacturer of double cane chairs in the world; it produced 1,000 dozen chairs each week.
Since the furniture is no longer being produced, some Tell City Chair Company items are prized by collectors and antique lovers, with pieces selling for several thousand dollars.
