- Prepare and assort your clothes before washing them
Turn your clothing inside out, fasten any hooks or buttons and close all zippers. Sort your clothing based on color, shade and weight before washing it.
- Wash your colored clothing separately
Select a liquid laundry detergent that does not contain bleach additives. Wash colored clothing only with other colored clothing. Use cold water, and select a short washing machine cycle.
- Wash new clothing items on their own
New clothing items are more likely to bleed during their first few washes. Prevent the discoloration of your other clothing items by washing new clothing separately.
- Properly dry your clothing
Line dry your clothing whenever possible, but keep the clothing out of direct sunlight to prevent fading. If you use a dryer, use a low setting, and do not overdry your clothing. Remove your clothing from the dryer as soon as the items are dry.
