Some positively rated jar vacuum sealers are the FoodSaver handheld vacuum sealer, Reynolds Handi-Vac and the FoodSaver V2550 or V2250 Vacuum Sealing System. Handheld vacuum machines work on both vacuum bags and jars.
The FoodSaver handheld vacuum sealer goes hand in hand with the FoodSaver Wide-Mouth Jar Sealer or attachment. Press the handheld sealer firmly onto the opening of the attachment to create a vacuum seal on the jar hole. The device, which is rechargeable, also works with specially designed zipper bags made by FoodSaver.
The Reynolds Handi-Vac works in much the same way as the Foodsaver handheld vacuum sealer. Place the nozzle on top of the wide-mouth attachment, and press the button to create a vacuum seal on the jar. This sealer also works with Ziploc vacuum bags, but it needs a special rubber adapter sold by Reyn-Lock. The device may be out of production, but as of 2015, it is still available at Big Lots stores.
To use the FoodSaver V2550 or V2250 Vacuum Sealing System, you need the wide-mouth attachment and the hose that comes with the vacuum machine. Plug the hose into the vacuum machine and the other end onto the attachment, place it on the jar and create the seal.
