How Do You Plant a Peach Pit?

It is possible to grow a peach tree from a peach pit; however, there is no guarantee that it is going to produce peaches. All that is required is a peach pit, soil, fertilizer, mulch, a plastic bag and a refrigerator.

  1. Soak the pit in water

Place the peach pit in water for 1 to 2 hours.

  2. Place the pit in a plastic bag with soil

Make sure that your soil is slightly moist, and then place the peach pit and soil in a plastic bag.

  3. Put it in the refrigerator

Keep the bag away from other fruit. Store it in the refrigerator at a temperature between 34 and 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

  4. Monitor germination progress

Germination can take several weeks or months, and there is no guarantee that germination is going to occur. Use multiple peach varieties for a higher success rate.

  5. Transplant the pit

After it germinates, transplant the peach pit to a pot for indoor growth or to a permanent spot outdoors. Peach trees sprout in the spring, so be sure to time your planting appropriately.

  6. Care for the peach tree

Put the peach tree in an area where it receives plenty of sunlight. Place mulch around the tree to keep its temperature low.
