The best place to mount a radiant ceiling heater is an area away from common activity spots, such as dining room tables or living room couches. People in those spots report more discomfort when the heater directly overhead turns off, complaining of cold. People further away do not report discomfort.
Other obstructions place additional restrictions on the placement of radiant ceiling heaters. Ceiling fans, sprinkler heads and air conditioning vents are common in commercial or residential spaces and occupy ceiling space as well. Even with these disadvantages, researchers have found that radiant ceiling heaters are 33 percent more efficient than a heat pump and 52 percent more efficient than baseboard heaters.
