Persil is a laundry detergent brand from German chemical products manufacturer Henkel AG & Company. It is marketed as “Germany's No. 1 laundry detergent.” Consumer goods company Unilever sells it as its premier brand in Ireland as well as in the United Kingdom, where it has its headquarters.
Persil is notable for being the first commercially available "self-activated" laundry detergent. Henkel invented the brand in 1907 at a time when soap was beginning to compete with washing powder for washing chores. Combining the powers of washing and bleaching agents, Persil is primarily made of sodium perborate and sodium silicate. Today it is renowned for its ability to remove stubborn stains and produce fiber-deep cleanliness.
