Mature ornamental pampas grass plants abundantly produce pampas grass seeds, which are self-planting and grow in any type of soil. One pampas grass plant produces over one million seeds in the course of its lifetime.
Pampas grass seeds grow nicely indoors as well. As the seeds grow into mature plants, re-potting is necessary, and a move to the yard should be made once the danger of frost has passed. Pampas grass plants often reach 13 feet high and spread up to 6 feet wide, which makes them especially useful as privacy hedges. Pampas grass resists pests and is difficult to destroy because of its deep root system. The ornamental plumes often take three to five years to reach maturity.
