For kitchen cupboards, it is best to choose a semi-gloss paint. High gloss is another alternative. Both are resilient, resist mold and mildew and are easy to clean.
Semi-gloss paint does well in rooms that get a lot of use. Grease stains and sticky fingerprints clean up easily with this paint. It has less shine than high gloss paint and doesn't require as much preparation beforehand. High gloss has more shine but shows every imperfection in cabinets, walls and trim so more time is required in order to prepare the surface to be painted.
Keep in mind when deciding that preparation includes everything from moving appliances and furniture to removing the old paint and filling in holes and cracks in the surface to be painted.
