Almost all newer electric cooktops have replaceable electric burners. Most electric burners can be removed and replaced easily, so expert help is rarely needed if a single burner goes out. If the electrical components connected to the burner break, however, expert help may be necessary.
Electric burners are designed to be durable, but they heat up and cool down significantly while in use, and the heavy items placed on them create an even larger temperature differential. They also must hold heating elements, which can weaken their design. To account for this, most newer electric stoves have burners that plug in and unplug easily. This plug design also makes it easy to remove electric burners to clean both the burners and the stove surface underneath them.
