Toilet tank replacement is a task that most homeowners can perform without hiring a professional, according to SFGate. The required supplies include a new toilet tank, a screwdriver, a wrench and a towel.
To install a new toilet tank, close the toilet's water supply valve, and flush the toilet to empty the tank and bowl. Open the tank, and loosen the bolts fastening it to the bowl. Pick up the tank, and set it aside.
Attach a rubber gasket to the hole on the floor of the new tank, and set the tank over the toilet bowl. Place washers over the bolts, insert the bolts through the holes in the tank, and tighten them with a wrench. Cover the tank, open the toilet water valve, and flush it to fill the tank with fresh water.
