To naturally clean and polish a hardwood floor, sweep the floor, apply a mixture of vinegar, olive oil and lemon oil, mop the floor, and towel-dry. This one-hour process requires cleaning gloves, a spray bottle, vinegar, olive and lemon oils, a mop handle, two sponge mop heads and a towel.
- Sweep the floor
Move the furniture away from the walls. Sweep the floor, paying special attention to high-traffic areas.
- Mix the cleaning solution
Combine equal parts white vinegar and olive oil in a spray bottle. Add 10 drops of lemon essential oil, close the bottle, and shake it vigorously.
- Apply the cleaning solution
Spray a liberal amount of the cleaning solution over the floor, including the corners and edges. Apply extra cleaner to dirty areas, shaking the bottle vigorously before each application so you get an equal mixture of vinegar and the oils.
- Wipe away the residue
Change the mop head, and rub the floor with the clean head until no oily residue remains.
- Buff the floor
Put on cleaning gloves and buff the floor with a towel. Use light, circular motions. Polish the floor until it gleams.
- Clean up
Discard the leftover cleaning solution and rinse the mop heads.
