Several natural essential oils, such as from mint, wintergreen and marjoram have been found to repel wasps. Other natural pest control products can trap or kill a wasp population to protect property and people.
Research conducted by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences and Oystershell Laboratories concluded that some herbal essential oils were among the most effective for repelling vespid (social) wasps.
Another way to control wasps is to avoid certain things that attract their attention. PETA recommends avoiding wearing yellow or white clothing while gardening as wasps are attracted to these colors. Wearing red is a better option, as wasps cannot see this color. PETA also warns that stepping on a wasp results in the release of a chemical that tells wasps in a nearby nest to attack.
