Mushrooms can be found growing almost anywhere and on any natural material. However, certain kinds of mushrooms may only grow in specific places. Some grow on living or dead trees, while others grow on fallen logs, decomposing leaves or dung.
Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of some fungi and generally consist of a stem and a cap. Even though they seem to appear overnight, mushrooms actually take weeks or days to develop. The initial growth of a fungus goes largely unnoticed because it occurs underground. When conditions are good with the right temperature or moisture, mushrooms grow through the ground and are visible.
