Interior decorators earn a median wage of $40,600 according to a 2012 survey of the interior design industry by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). By definition, 50 percent of interior decorators in the U.S. earn more than the median wage and 50 percent earn less than the median wage. These figures include only regular wages, leaving out bonuses and other additional payments.
The top 25 percent of earners in the interior design field make more than $66,330. The bottom 25 percent of earners in the field earn less than $34,910. The BLS projects employment in the interior design field to grow by 13 percent during the 10 years beginning in 2012. This growth corresponds to about 7,000 new jobs across the country.
